David Alan Dryer

David Alan Dryer, 99, a retired civilian inspector with the Army  Materiel Command's Office of Inspector General, died of
pneumonia Nov. 2 at Anne  Arundel Medical Center. He was an Annapolis resident.
Starting in the late 1940s, Mr. Dryer worked for the Veterans Administration before joining the Army Department. He retired in
1966.
He was born in Washington and graduated from  Eastern High School in 1927. He received bachelor's and master's degrees in
economics from George Washington University.
He worked for the Labor Department's Children's Bureau before World War II. His wife recalled that he once had to cite Judy
Garland's manager for allowing the young entertainer to work underage at Washington's Colonial Theater.
During the war, he served in the Army Quartermaster Corps in the Mediterranean. He later joined the Army Reserve and retired
as a lieutenant colonel.
He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Annapolis and sang in the choir.
His was a Mason, and his memberships included the Shriners, the Scottish Rite, the National Sojourners and the Order of the
Eastern Star.
He enjoyed woodworking, doing crossword puzzles and  traveling.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Frances M. Dryer of Annapolis.
