Daisy Search, 85, who did administrative work in the National Cancer Institute's director's office for 18 years until retiring in 2004, died Aug.
16 at her home in Kensington. She had congestive heart failure.
Mrs. Search was a stenographer-secretary with the State Department from the early 1940s until the mid-1950s. During one trip to Colombia,
she was confined to her hotel during a coup attempt, her family said.
Daisy Cecile Flanke was born in Long Beach, Calif., and raised in Washington, where she graduated in 1942 from Eastern High School.
She received an associate's degree from George Washington University.
She was a local elections judge in Garrett Park for many years. She was a founding member of North Chevy Chase Christian Church and
the Gerrymanders of Maryland Square Dance Club. She was a member of the Heart of Maryland Chorus and the Capital Accord Chorus
Her husband of 27 years, Harry E. Search, died in 1975. Her second marriage, to Edwin Brown, ended in divorce.
Survivors include two children from her first marriage, Robin A. Search of Incline Village, Nev., and Gary A. Search of Alliance, Ohio; and a
brother, Robert Flanke of Churchton in Anne Arundel County.
