Cecilia "Ya" Mary Hayden, 83, a 56-year resident of Annapolis, died Feb. 16 at Anne Arundel Medical Center.
Born May 2, 1926, she was born and raised in Washington, D.C., and was a graduate of Eastern High School in Washington.
A homemaker most of her life, Cecilia's memberships included Catholic Daughters of America, Hillsmere Shores Garden Club, Den Mother in the Cub Scouts for her boys, and a member and four-time President of Ladies of the Knights. She enjoyed ceramics, knitting, crocheting, sewing, cooking and shopping. Cecilia's greatest joy was being a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her siblings, Helen Ball, Charlotte Jackson, Tudi Higgins, Frannie Beitzell and Buck, Juggy and Hop Battenfield.
She is survived by her husband, Paul Cecil Hayden Sr., whom she married on Sept. 20, 1947; her children, Sharon P. (Andy) Brown of Hollywood, Debbie Zeller of York, Pa., Paul C. (Jeannie) Hayden Jr. of Huntingtown, John G. Hayden of St. Leonard, Michael A. (Jenny) Hayden of Gambrills, and Colleen (Andy) Mitsopoulos of Arnold; sisters, Eileen Moore of Annapolis and Teresa Lawrence of Abell; 26 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.
Friends are invited to Cecilia's Life Celebration from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 19 at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 20 at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 620 Bestgate Road, Annapolis. Interment St. Mary's Cemetery.
