Benjamin Binder, 86, a retired co-owner of a gift shop at Loehmann's
Plaza in Rockville, died Aug. 27 at Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring.
Mr. Binder and his wife co-owned and operated the Paper Tree Gift
Shop from the early 1970s to the mid-1980s. Earlier, he was co-owner
with his late brother Irving of Binder's Liquor store in Washington.
Benjamin Binder was a native Washingtonian and a graduate of Eastern
High School.
He was an X-ray technician for the Army in the Philippines during World
War II. He attended George Washington University.
In retirement, he volunteered at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum
and the Jewish Community Center of Greater Washington in Rockville
and with Meals on Wheels.
He was an usher at Arena Stage in Washington and the Olney Theatre
Center.
He was a resident of the Leisure World retirement community in Silver
Spring. He enjoyed gardening and playing golf.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Marian Paper Binder of Silver
Spring; three sons, Steve Binder of Phoenix, Stewart Binder of Raleigh,
N.C., and Mitch Binder of New Port Richey, Fla.; a brother, Dr. William
Binder of Alexandria; and six grandchildren.
