RICHARD C. JOHNSON Richard Carl Johnson went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 9, 2009, at City
Hospital of Martinsburg. Born June 20, 1927 in Racine, Wisconsin, he was the son of the late Carl V. and Theresa
R. Johnson. He served in the US Marine Corps during WWII. In 1945 he graduated from Central High School in
Washington, D.C. He graduated from George Washington University and George Washington Law School with a
degree in Law. He also graduated from Westminster Theological Seminary. He married Harriette Miller Benson
of Arlington, Virginia and together they had six children. He was a United Methodist minister from 1953 to 1972 in
Virginia and Maryland. He then became an attorney for the Interstate Commerce Commission from 1972 until he
retired in 1989. Richard is survived by his loving wife, Harriette of 56 years; a son, Thomas Johnson of Martinsburg; a son, James
Johnson of Dallas, TX; a daughter, Barbara Macenczak of Burtonsville, MD; a daughter, Carolyn Oppenheimer of Grove City, PA;
a son, Daniel Johnson of Mount Joy, PA; a son, William Johnson of Windsor, CT; 27 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A
Memorial Service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, June 13, 2009 at Independent Bible Church, Martinsburg with Pastor Billy Hearn
officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Great Commission Families, 35 Jeffrey Lane, Brunswick, MD
21758 or Bea Schafferman Memorial Fund, c/o Debbie Johnson, 126 Weaver Lane, Martinsburg, WV 25404 to help defray the
