Phyllis F. Kramer, 82, a Fairfax City resident and member of the Episcopal
Church of the Good Shepherd in Burke, died May 8 at Fairfax Nursing Center
of complications after hip-replacement surgery.
Mrs. Kramer did volunteer work for Fairfax County schools in the late 1960s
and 1970s and for the Literacy Council of Northern Virginia in the 1980s.
Phyllis Freseman was born in Annapolis, and she graduated in 1945 from the
old Central High School in Washington. She was a 1950 graduate of George
Washington University, where she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi social
sorority. She then spent a few years doing clerical work for the D.C. juvenile
court system.
Her husband of 38 years, Carl Kramer, a Washington Post editor, died in
1990. Survivors include three children, Alan Kramer of Melbourne, Australia,
Phyllis "Dee Dee" Nussmeier of Goleta, Calif., and Virginia "Ginna" Connor
of Silver Spring.
