
KENNETH JAMES EVANS (Age 93)
On October 15, 2011 at home in Silver Spring, MD. Beloved husband of
Ann (nee Barnhart) for 65 years. Devoted father to Susan Henry of Tiburon,
CA, Shan Evans of Silver Spring, MD, and John (Jack) Evans of Boxborough,
MA and grandfather to Christopher, David and Sara Henry, and Joanne,
Corrie and Jay Evans. Predeceased by his brother Harold (Stuffy) Evans, Jr.,
survived by three nephews and their families. He is remembered by many for
his engaging smile, exuberance, firm handshakes and hugs.
Ken was born in Washington, DC, moved to Takoma Park, MD at age
10. Graduated from the former Central High School in DC, earned a
bachelor's degree in Aeronautical Engineering from University of Maryland
and an MBA from George Washington University. He initially worked as an
aeronautical engineer for various defense contractors, later in environmental
engineering. He worked on some notable aircraft, such as Airphibian and
Martin P5M-2.
An avid baseball fan, Ken played on and coached several baseball and
softball teams, and played tennis well into his 70's. He enjoyed building model
airplanes, collecting stamps and listening to music, particularly jazz and
classical performances. He and Ann played bridge and enjoyed ballroom
dancing throughout their marriage. After living in Ellicott City for 29 years,
Ken and Ann have enjoyed life at Riderwood.
Services private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his
memory to the Benevolent Care Fund at Riderwood, 3140 Gracefield Road,
Silver Spring, MD 20904, or a charity of your choice .
