Katherine Kallivas

Katherine Kallivas, 94, who owned a stenography business with her sister for more than 50 years, died Jan. 1 of
cardiopulmonary arrest at the Sunrise of Fairfax assisted living facility.
Miss Kallivas was born in Lynn, Mass., and came to Washington as a child. She graduated from the  old Central
High School
and worked in her family's Greek import grocery store.
In the late 1930s, she formed the Accurate Letter Service, a stenographic and secretarial business, with her sister,
Dorothy Kallivas Ballas. They operated the company at the National Press Building and provided business
services to journalists, lobbyists and political figures for more than 50 years.
Miss Kallivas shared a home in the District for many years with her sister, who died in 2007. She was a member of
St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Washington and the cathedral's Greek Orthodox Ladies' Philoptochos
Society.
There are no immediate survivors.
