George Eugene Lenwell
RETURN
HOME
2010

George Eugene Lenwell, 85, of Lake of the Woods peacefully left this world
to be with his God on Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2010. Born Oct. 1, 1925, in
Toledo, Ohio, George grew up in Washington, D.C., where he attended
Central High School. He joined the U.S. Naval Air Corps during World War
II. The majority of his adult life was spent working for the Architect of the
U.S. Capitol, retiring in 1980.

He recently celebrated his 64th anniversary with his faithful mate, Ruth B
Lenwell, with whom he fathered two daughters, Josie Marie of Taos, N.M.,
and Patricia Jeanne of Wilmington, N.C. In addition, he was blessed with one
granddaughter, Erin Melton (husband Bryant); three grandsons, Morgan (wife
Lauren), Matthew and Tyler Messner; four great-grandchildren; his sister,
Marguerite Pearson (husband David); and countless other relatives and friends.

George was the proverbial good Samaritan with a quick smile and a kind
word for all.

The family is celebrating his life in a memorial service at The Lake of the
Woods Church at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 3.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The LOW Church, LOW
Fire & Rescue or Hospice Care Services of the Mary Washington Hospital
Foundation.
