Thomas C. Leak Jr., 78, the former owner of a service station in Washington's Shepherd Park neighborhood, died June 17 at Montgomery General
Hospital in Olney after a heart attack. He was an Ashton resident.

Mr. Leak's station -- first an Esso station, then Exxon -- was at Georgia Avenue and Geranium Street. He owned it from 1961 to 1978 and also operated a
U-Haul franchise on the premises. He won awards from Exxon and U-Haul for excellence and productivity.

Thomas Clayton Leak Jr. was born in Luray, Va., and moved to the District as an infant. He attended
Coolidge Senior High School.

He worked as a salesman before operating the service station. After he sold the station, he worked as a salesman for Posner Industries, a supplier of
construction materials. He retired in the late 1990s.

He was a baseball fan whose favorite team was the New York Yankees. His favorite player was Mickey Mantle, who once sent him an autographed photo
at the behest of Mr. Leak's wife. He also loved cars, particularly his original 1940 Chevy, a black sedan.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Nancy Hinkson Leak of Ashton; four children, Suzanne Street of York, Pa., Sharon Hayden of Pittsburgh, Stephen
Leak of Hagerstown, Md., and Scott Leak of Fulton, Md.; a brother, Charles Leak of Mount Airy, Md.; and two grandchildren.
