Patricia M. Dejter, 82: Social worker, volunteer

     Patricia M. Dejter, 82, a social worker who volunteered for CASA of
Montgomery County, died May 7 at Grand Oaks assisted-living facility in
Washington. She had complications from diabetes.

     During the 1980s and 1990s, Mrs. Dejter volunteered with CASA, a
not-for-profit program that provides volunteers to serve as court
advocates for children. During the 1950s, she was a social worker for
Prince George’s County and Baltimore City.
     
     Patricia Lere McKenzie was born in Minneapolis and grew up in
Washington, where she was a 1946 graduate of
Coolidge High School.
She received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Minnesota in
1950.

     She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Washington, where
she served on the council, and volunteered with Loaves and Fishes, a
food pantry in the District, and Meals on Wheels in Bethesda, where she
had been a resident.

     Her marriage to Stephen W. Dejter ended in divorce. Their daughter
Victoria Markle died in 1995.
     
     Survivors include three children, Stephen W. Dejter Jr. of
Washington, Susan Radford of Raleigh and Robert Dejter of Silver
Spring; two sisters, Barbara M. Nelson of Malvern, Pa., and Sharon M.
Beardall of Potomac; and eight grandchildren.
