Esther Bordenick Gartenhaus, 73, a homemaker and member of Hadassah, died of complications from cancer July 25 at her home in
Rockville.
Mrs. Gartenhaus, a native Washingtonian, graduated from Calvin Coolidge High School. As a teenager, she won a Jewish Community
Center beauty contest and was crowned Queen Esther.
She married and became a full-time homemaker. She moved to Tamarac, Fla., in the mid-1980s before returning to the Washington area in
2005.
Her husband, Donald Gartenhaus, died in 2002.
Survivors include two sons, Howard Gartenhaus and Jay Gartenhaus, both of Rockville; a sister; and six grandchildren.
