William R. Kline

William R. Kline, 83, a retired dentist who practiced in Washington and Temple Hills, died July
7 at his home in Southeast Washington. He had a heart ailment.

William Rexroad Kline was a Washington native and a graduate of
Anacostia High School. He
graduated from Duke University in an accelerated officer training program and from
Georgetown University dental school in 1949.

Dr. Kline served for several years as a Navy dentist, primarily at a base at Cherry Point, N.C.
He opened a general dentistry practice in Washington in the 1950s and later moved his office
to Temple Hills. He retired in 1997.

Dr. Kline served in the Navy Reserve for many years, reaching the rank of captain. He was a
member of the D.C. Dental Society and Capitol Hill United Methodist Church. He enjoyed
gardening and golf and was a member of the National Golf Club at Tantallon in Fort
Washington and the Maryland Interclub Senior Golf Association.

In recent years, Dr. Kline spent winters in North Palm Beach, Fla. Last Christmas, he was
invited to light the Christmas tree at the Washington Navy Yard, where his father had worked
for many years.

Dr. Kline's wife of 10 years, Mary Swann Kline, died in 2004.

He had no immediate survivors.
