Millicent M. "Penny" Ichord, 77, a volunteer and former government secretary who was the widow of Rep. Richard H. Ichord
(D-Mo.), died of cancer Nov. 11 at a nursing home in Gainesville.
In the 1950s and '60s, Mrs. Ichord worked for the Agriculture Department and on Capitol Hill. She also did modeling work for
department stores in Washington.
After her marriage to Ichord in 1967, Mrs. Ichord lived primarily in Fort Washington but traveled extensively to Missouri to help
with her husband's campaigns. He died in 1992.
She was a docent at Mattawoman Creek Art Center in Marbury and a member of Tantallon Country Club in Fort Washington, the
International Club, the Congressional Wives Club and the Surratt Society.
Mrs. Ichord was born in Wellesley, Mass., and grew up in Washington, where she graduated from Anacostia High School in
1947. As a young woman, she studied art and entomology at what was then Vermont Junior College.
Her marriage to her first husband, David C. Koch, ended in divorce.
Survivors include a daughter from her first marriage, Kylene White of Woodbridge; and two granddaughters.
