Michael Alphonso Starks

    Funeral service for Michael Alphonso Starks will be held 11:00 a.m.
March 4, 2011, at Stewart Funeral Home, with burial to follow in
Veterans National Cemetery, Cheltenham, Md.

    Mr. Starks was the youngest of 10 children born to Thomas and
Mary Martin Starks in Columbia, S.C.

    An angel visited Michael at Holy Cross Hospital February 16, 2011,
and took him away.

    Michael was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army and worked
in construction. He was educated at Lakeview Elementary School in
West Columbia, S.C., and
Anacostia High in Washington, D.C.
Michael moved to the District of Columbia after the death of his mother
in 1965.

    Preceding him in death were his mother and father, his son, Iran
Michael Starks, sister, Emma Starks Daniels, brothers, James and
Milton Starks, and Jasper Sutton.

    He leaves to cherish his memory, a dear friend, Cortesa Marshall,
his daughter Tear Hope-Starks, one stepdaughter, one stepson, six
grand, one great-grandchild, three sisters, Louise Starks Winslow,
Maxine Starks Sutton and Malissa Starks McNairy (Emmitt), three
brothers, Clyde, Bobby and Charles Starks, his uncle, Damon Starks,
his aunt, Susie Martin, nieces, nephew, and a host of other relatives and
good friends.

    Jones Funeral Home, West Columbia, is assisting the family with
local arrangements.
