Maryann H. McLean Johnson

resident of Silver Spring, MD, passed away on January 29, 2010 at age 79. A native
Washingtonian, Maryann graduated from
Anacostia High School and attended George
Washington University, before earning her B.A. from Marymount College in Arlington,
VA, and M.Ed. in Pre-Elementary Education from George Mason University in Fairfax,
VA. After 43 years as a teacher in District of Columbia Public Schools, an Education
Coordinator for Fairfax County Head Start, and a Child Development Specialist and
Inspector for the U.S. Navy, Maryann retired in 2002. She was a Phi Delta Kappa
Emeritus Member, and long-time member of Delta Kappa Gamma, NEA, VEA and
FEA. Maryann also enjoyed a lifetime of community service, including her recent
volunteer work for Elizabeth House in Laurel, MD. Maryann is survived and lovingly
remembered by her brother, Lawrence S. McLean of Annapolis, MD; sons, Dallas D.
Johnson of Paramus, NJ and Derek T. Johnson of Kensington, MD; daughter, Mary
Catharine ("Catie") Johnson of Boulder, CO; grandson, Jeremiah; granddaughters,
Christine and Nichole; great-grandsons, Eric and Evan, and many devoted family
members and friends. Memorial service at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 13, 2010 at
Riderwood Chapel, 3110 Gracefield Road, Silver Spring, MD 20904. Private interment
at a later date at St. Mary's Historic Cemetery in Fairfax Station, VA. In lieu of flowers,
donations may be made in Maryann's honor to the Riderwood Benevolent Care Fund or
