John Joseph Burke

John Joseph Burke, 71, a resident of Edgewater, died on July 7 at
Mandrin Chesapeake Hospice House in Harwood. Born on Jan. 13,
1939, in Washington, D.C., John was a graduate of
Anacostia High
School
where he excelled in all sports.

After high school, John served in the U.S. Marine Corps and
subsequently attended the Grantham School of Electronics. He spent the
rest of his career as an elevator adjuster with the International Union of
Elevator Contractors in and around the D.C. Metropolitan area.

In his spare time, John enjoyed working in his yard and spending time
with his grandchildren.

John is survived by his daughter, Mary Catherine Trahar of Edgewater;
one sister, Jeane Parmer of Chesapeake Beach; and three grandchildren,
Noah, Emma and Ryan.

Funeral services were held today at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home,
2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD 21037. Interment
Lakemont Memorial Gardens.
