David Kenneth Roth, 73, an auditor for Pepco and later deputy fiscal officer for D.C. Superior Court for 20 years, died April 21 at his home in
Prince Frederick. He had lung cancer.
Mr. Roth was a native Washingtonian and a graduate of Anacostia High School. He obtained bachelor's and master's degrees in
commercial science from Benjamin Franklin University.
An avid musician, he played drums in the Navy from 1953 to 1957 and served on the battleship USS Missouri and the guided missile
cruiser USS Lake Champlain.
For many years, he was active in the Montgomery-Prince George's Chapter of the Association of Government Accountants, serving as its
president in 1979-1980.
After retiring from the D.C. government in 1991, Mr. Roth served as a bailiff in the Prince George's County courts and was employed by H&R
Block as a tax preparer until the time of his death.
In his later years, his love of music and performing led him to become a percussionist for the Southern Maryland concert and swing bands.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Margaret Mae Roth of Prince Frederick; four children, Paul Roth of Huntingtown, Philip Roth of
Edgewater, Robert Roth of Lake Ridge and Alice Eppley of Charlotte Hall; a brother, John Roth of Olney; and six grandchildren.
