Clyde Robert Winters, 72, a former D.C. police officer who became a lawyer, died Nov. 11 at his home in Deerfield Beach, Fla., of
complications from a stroke. His primary residence was in Rockville. Mr. Winters was a Washington native and a graduate of
Anacostia High School. He served in the Navy from 1953 to 1957 before joining the D.C. police.
In January 1960, he was shot in the line of duty by robbers holding up a liquor store. His partner was killed.
Mr. Winters took an early medical retirement from the police force and graduated from American University in 1963. He
graduated from AU's law school in 1966 and practiced real estate law in Rockville for more than 30 years.
He was a member of the Rotary and Lions clubs and served on the board of directors of the Rockville Elks Lodge. He lived part
of the year in Florida and also owned property in Page County, Va.
His marriage to Anita Thiel Winters ended in divorce.
Survivors include his wife of 15 years, Ann Bonvillain Winters of Rockville and Deerfield Beach; two sons from his first marriage,
Christopher P. Winters of Seattle and Jason D. Winters of Los Angeles; six stepchildren, Joseph W. Bonvillain of Baltimore,
Christopher K. Bonvillain of Gaithersburg, Nicholas F. Bonvillain of Summerville, S.C., Andrew J. Bonvillain of Bel Air, Md., Jill L.
Craven of Mechanicsville and Amy L. Daly of Redwood City, Calif.; a sister, Barbara W. Milton of Alexandria; three brothers, Bruce
A. Winters of Flagler Beach, Fla., Charles M. Winters of Mary Esther, Fla., and Paul D. Winters of Hallandale Beach, Fla.; and 14
grandchildren.
