Charles Lowdnes Tate Jr.


Charles Lowdnes Tate Jr., of Midlothian, Va., his home for the past 40
years, passed away January 24, 2010.

He was born in Asheville, N.C., on December 8, 1943. He was preceded
in death by his father, Charles L. Tate Sr.; and his mother, Eugenia Tate
Stirewalt, both of Asheville, N.C.

Charles graduated from
Anacostia High School in Washington, D.C. in
1961 and graduated from VCU in 1972.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army in August of 1963 and was a Spec 4 in the
82nd Airborne Division, 505 Infantry Regiment, Delta Company, Ft.
Bragg, N.C. On June 15, 1964, he was awarded the Purple Heart and
the Army Commendation Medal, and "V" Device for his heroic actions.

He was a member of the VFW Post 1426 and a lifetime member of the
82nd Airborne Division Association and Paralyzed Veterans of America.

The family will receive friends Saturday, April 10, from 4 to 6 p.m., for
a memorial visitation at Bliley's-Chippenham, 6900 Hull Street Road. In
lieu of flowers, donations are requested to be made to the Salvation
Army, P.O. Box 12400, Richmond, Va. 23241.
